The Daily…ish

Poetry and Miscellany

  • Poem

    Men say they know many things;
    But lo! they have taken wings—
    The arts and sciences,
    And a thousand appliances;
    The wind that blows
    Is all that any body knows.

    ~ Henry David Thoreau

Poetry Tool

Posted by Matthew on February 23, 2007

I found today’s poem via the Poetry Tool on the Poetry Foundation‘s website. According to the website, there are “more than 3,000 contemporary and classic poems in English by more than 250 poets”, an archive to which they will be “continually adding”. The numbers strike me as small, but what do I know? It’s pretty intuitive, and it’s just a good idea.

In other news, Yahoo’s Pipes allowed me to create the feed beneath the Daily Thoreau. I plan on creating many more pipes, including some focused on poetry. Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath.
