Poetry and Miscellany

  • Poem

    Men say they know many things;
    But lo! they have taken wings—
    The arts and sciences,
    And a thousand appliances;
    The wind that blows
    Is all that any body knows.

    ~ Henry David Thoreau

See? Entertainment!

Posted by Matthew on March 21, 2007

Continuing the theme of poetry as entertainment, I came across an interesting experiment going on at The Poetry Foundation. Basically, they’ve invited graphic novelists to illustrate famous poems. The results are wonderful.

Read about it and check out the poems: The Poem as Comic Strip #1 & #2 (hence, today’s poem).

Also, I have discovered a wonderful photo pool at flickr: Poetry in the Landscape.

Poem: It was not death, for I stood up, by Emily Dickinson and Gabrielle Bell
Thoreau: from March 21, 1840
