Poetry and Miscellany

  • Poem

    Men say they know many things;
    But lo! they have taken wings—
    The arts and sciences,
    And a thousand appliances;
    The wind that blows
    Is all that any body knows.

    ~ Henry David Thoreau

“Numbers”

Posted by Matthew on April 3, 2007

I love today’s poem. It may be my favorite so far. It’s such a simple subject, but the poet puts a different frame of reference on it, and it seems somehow fresher. That is what poetry is all about.

Poem: Numbers, by Mary Cornish.
Thoreau: April 3, 1859 and April 3, 1853
